1.1.1 Physical, social and intellectual development and characteristics of students.
As a pre-service teacher I have recognised that the teacher centric, power point approach is not always appropriate. After observing, reflecting, discussing and teaching I have concluded that the requirement for a targeted range of teaching strategies is required for multiple reasons. The ability to be flexible within the classroom and able to draw on a range of teaching techniques and resources that will cater for specific class needs and individual learning characteristics as required at the time, in the moment, is an essential asset needed by all teachers. I planned my lessons specifically around the ‘explicit’ teaching method and would take subject notes into class for my own benefit (evidence attached). This technique reduced the time spent sitting and listening by the students and encouraged active class participation. Additionally, this method took into account their cognitive and physical characteristics.
I would prepare the attached subject notes before the lesson, for my own benefit, allowing me to keep the lesson on track, assisting me with my teaching development for the current experience level I’m at.
