1.2.1 Understand how students learn
Understanding how students and young people learn is imperative to student and teacher success. Reflecting on conversations had with my mentor teacher around the developing teenage brain and reading additional resource books focused on effective learning techniques, such as Teaching: Making a difference by Rick Churchill, Peter Ferguson, Sally Godinho, et al, I incorporated a multifaceted approach to my practice by including short, fast activities and teaching time which stimulated the senses and brain.
Techniques utilised: Rapid Recall, Movement through standing, sitting and hands up, coloured paper and student resources.
The attached Lesson Observation Feedback Sheet displays the first lesson that I executed the new approach to my practice; outlining the success it had on the lesson and the areas to improve, which I am working towards.
