6.4.1 Apply professional learning and improve student learning
Having the advantage of being a mature age student with a previous degree and significant work experience, I understand the importance of ongoing professional learning. The opportunity to be able to study at Southern Cross University (SCU) in the Bachelor of Secondary Education (Graduate) is invaluable to my professional development, it is also improving my students’ learning, whilst on practicum and beyond.
I have taken advantage of my working relationship with my mentor teacher while on practicum, along with relationships that developed over the five weeks with other senior teachers in the school. I was given the opportunity to sit in on various teacher’s classes, on top of all my mentor teacher’s different classes. This has given me a much broader and more valuable range of skills to add to my teaching practice than I otherwise would have received by just being with the one teacher.
Additionally, I plan to extend my teaching areas post completion of my degree and I am constantly seeking out independent course opportunities to attend to improve my practice.
