4.1.1 Support student participation
As a preservice teacher I have endeavored to create a fun, engaging and safe environment through employing numerous strategies that promote student participation. Additionally, I have spent a significant amount of time discussing these strategies with my mentor teacher and observed various other qualified teacher’s lessons to adapt, translate and adjust my teaching style to incorporate different ideas into my pedagogical practice.
Whilst on practicum I have taught students with varying learning difficulties (including ICP students), different personalities, confidence levels, medical conditions and socioeconomic/ethnic/cultural backgrounds. For every individual student the importance of building rapport one on one and discovering their different personal requirements has been invaluable. Additionally, having multiple opportunities to showcase a myriad of different skills from analysing, creative writing, speaking, drawing, interpreting etc.… allows for a broad range of opportunities for all students to participate or to showcase their skills with me post class in an environment with just my mentor teacher and myself.
